At Salus Pharmaceuticals, we believe a healthy workplace starts with open conversation. Recently, our HR team organised a menstrual hygiene awareness session for our women employees, using a presentation to explain safe and healthy period practices.
Periods are a natural part of life, yet many women still feel uncomfortable talking about menstrual hygiene. Small habits make a big difference to women’s health, comfort and confidence.
Our Awareness Session
Our HR team spoke openly with our women colleagues about period care, hygiene and safe disposal. The aim was simple: remove shame, share correct information and help every woman feel supported at work. Here are the key points we covered.
Periods Are Natural, Not Shameful
Menstruation is a healthy monthly process. Talk openly, support one another and be prepared:
- Keep a spare pad in your bag.
- Maintain good personal hygiene.
- Drink plenty of water.
Why Sanitary Pads Are Better Than Cloth
- Clean and leak-proof: They absorb well and reduce the fear of stains.
- Infection prevention: Pads changed on time lower the risk of infection.
- Comfortable: Easy to wear, change and dispose of.
- Confidence all day: Work without hesitation.
Tip: Change your pad every 4 to 6 hours.
The Risks of Using Cloth
- Cloth that is not washed and dried properly breeds germs.
- It increases the risk of infections, rashes and itching.
- It leaks easily and stains clothes.
- Damp cloth can cause illness.
- It is inconvenient to change and handle at work.
How to Dispose of Sanitary Pads Safely
- Remove the used pad gently.
- Wrap it in the new pad’s wrapper or in paper.
- Put it in a covered dustbin.
- Wash your hands with soap and water.
Never flush pads down the toilet. They block the pipes.
Keep Washrooms Clean
- Always put pads in the dustbin, not on the floor or seat.
- Flush, and add water if needed.
- Wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap.
- Report a full dustbin or dirty area to the cleaning team.
When to See a Doctor
Hygiene is the first step, but do not ignore symptoms. See a doctor if you notice severe pain, unusually heavy bleeding, irregular cycles, or itching, rashes or discharge that does not go away.
